Boy Scout Troop 23 offers a year-round outdoor-based program designed to offer and encourage effective character, citizenship, and fitness training for boys age 11-17.
Boy Scout Meetings are held every Wednesday Evening at 7:00 pm at the St. Peters Center on the corner of Cottage and East Streets in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. We invite boys ages 11 through 17 to come by on a Wednesday night and see what Troop 23 is about.
Scoutmaster Chris Sweet leads a dedicated group of assistants that provide guidance to the youth leadership of the Troop.
Troop 23 has some type of activity every month. Past campouts have focused on hiking, backpacking, outdoor cooking, rock climbing and rappelling, biking, and canoeing. We have regular events like special themed “Camporees”, a mid-winter “Klondike Derby”, as well as other special events involving scouts from all over Massachusetts. Each summer we attend a week-long summer camp.
Our troop was founded in 1928 and is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Great Barrington. Our Troop has enjoyed serving our community and our sponsoring organization since our beginning. Since the Troop was charted we have had 60 Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle. Our Eagle projects have helped our local community, schools, churches, and charities.
Troop 23’s Sponsor or Chartering Organization is the Rotary Club of Great Barrington. Rotarians are an integral part of Troop 23, providing leadership and support to the Troop for many years and the Troop thanks them for all the support and guidance they provide! Troop 23 also thanks St. Peter’s Catholic Church for providing a place for us to meet.
